Lost in the purgatory of the past three seasons that were Villanova hoops, Eric Dixon played some elite ball. Tuesday night, he passed Kerry Kittles to become the school’s all-time leading scorer:

Kittles starred at Nova from 1992 to 1996, four seasons in which he played 122 games while averaging 18.4 PPG. That’s according to Sport Reference. Dixon got five years, playing 160 games and averaging 14.1 PPG. So when we’re giving this the Saquon Barkley/Eric Dickerson/O.J. Simpson treatment, note that Kittles did what he did in one fewer season.

That being said, Kittles played 4,410 minutes at Nova, while Dixon played 4,381, so he actually was on the floor for less total time. That can be attributed to him sitting on the bench and getting only eight minutes on average during the 2020-2021 season, when a post-pandemic Nova still had Cole Swider, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Jermaine Samuels, and Brandon Slater in the front court.

To get a little more granular, Dixon’s 23.0 PPG this year were better than any individual season Kittles had. He shot 45.5% from the field and 42% from three while hitting at 82.6% from the foul line. Kittles’ junior season was his best statistically, with 21.4 PPG on 52.4% field goal shooting, 41.1% from three, and 76.7% at the line. Both guys were good for 5-6 rebounds per game but Kittles was a 6’5″ shooting guard and tossed more assists on a nightly basis.

Two great players. Like most things in life, it depends what angle you wanna take here. Place the asterisks how you see fit.
