"I Was Getting Pushed Aside" Sean Couturier Opens Up About His Relationship With Torts
The Flyers had end of the season interviews today where Sean Couturier opened up about his relationship with John Tortorella:
Sean Couturier admitted he didn’t have much of a relationship with John Tortorella
“I just felt at times I was getting pushed aside. I didn’t know the reason or maybe didn’t agree with the explanations.”

Coots has been the consummate professional his entire career here. Through healthy scratches, injuries, and a Selke Trophy win he’s been a Flyers fan favorite for awhile. This quote makes me understand the Torts hire less and less day by day. Looking at this from a 1,000 yard lens it looks like the Flyers never had a plan that 100% of the org agreed upon. You had Torts making guys go balls to the wall every night, but didn’t have the horses to really compete while also sometimes refusing to develop the young guys or ever really giving them a chance. Were they tanking or were they playing for the Cup heading into the season? I feel like the GM knew what he wanted and he was Torts knew what he wanted to do. Why else would they sell two straight trade deadlines? The next Flyers hire should be someone who understands this might be a 1-2 year process before they stack enough chips to compete. Don’t bring in an old guy who wants to win now like Rick Tocchet. That would be the most Flyers move of all-time.
