Johan Rojas had a two-hit night on Wednesday against the Rockies, but if you watched the full game, you know his impact went further.

Rojas’ night started with a 101.8 mph, 2-out single in the 3rd, followed by a bunt single to move Edmundo Sosa over to third in the 5th. He followed that up with another bunt in the 7th, this time a sacrifice, to move Sosa over to third. Sosa would eventually score off an RBI single from Trea Turner.

Johan Rojas doesn’t need to hit .310. He doesn’t need to lace 30 homers a year. A single, a sac bunt, and a few nice plays in the outfield every night is all the Phillies need from Rojas, and that’s exactly what he gave the team on Wednesday night.

Rob Thomson was very impressed:

One of the biggest needs heading into the 2025 season was the Phillies improving their outfield, but a lot of that was in-house. They signed Max Kepler, who is off to a nice start. But the Phillies need Brandon Marsh to play every day, Nick Castellanos to find more season-long consistency at the plate, and Rojas to improve his offense.

A majority of Rojas’ games won’t jump out on the box score. That’s not the type of player he is, and that’s not who needs to be. A season filled with bunts, singles, and great defense is what the Phillies are hoping for, and that plan is off to a good start through the first five games of the season.
