Another round of job cuts at Audacy, which continues to emerge from bankruptcy. Among the 200 employees to lose their job was Dave Breitmaier, who posted the news on March 7th:

Breitmaier was a respected engineer and senior producer for almost 25 years over there, through CBS Radio and the Entercom/Audacy purchase. If you ever went to a WIP remote broadcast, you probably saw him sitting at the end of the table, running the show and coordinating the broadcast. He’d get the occasional on-air shoutout and was a constant fixture whenever the schedule took the talent out of the studio.

Also leaving is longtime WIP morning show producer Joe Weachter, whose retirement was announced on Monday morning. Weachter worked at WIP for almost 40 years and is seen as one of the key components to the success of Angelo Cataldi’s program. Staffers over there speak very highly of him and talk about the rapport he had with Cataldi, Al Morganti, Keith Jones, and Rhea Hughes, playing a significant role in turning that show into a decades-long ratings juggernaut and cash cow.

As with any round of cuts, there’s a combination of layoffs and retirements, where it’s understood that if you don’t choose to leave, you’re gonna be leaving anyway. In other words – “if you don’t retire, we’re gonna retire you.” Talking to a couple of folks over there, it seems like that was the case with Weachter, though the writing on the wall was obvious and nobody is surprised. When you’re working for a company that’s coming out of bankruptcy and making multiple rounds of sweeping cuts, you know the end is nigh, and if you’re in a position to retire, you do it and ride off into the sunset. By the way, Dave Uram posted a nice note and it highlights what Weachter did:
