“I don’t have a college degree, I hit baseballs.”
This could be the motto of the 2022 Phillies season. It’s not necessarily about higher education, it’s about mashing baseballs over the fence. Famous words from Nick Castellanos, who was very blunt and down-the-middle at his introductory press conference.
There’s also a larger message here about college. Maybe folks are working on their 10,000-word think pieces as we speak. You don’t have to go to college. You can join the military, learn a trade, or go into the Peace Corps. If you’re Castellanos, you can win Florida baseball player of the year, commit to the Miami Hurricanes and wind up getting drafted by the Detroit Tigers instead. Nick did not end up with student loan debt, so that’s also a good thing. He learned how to demolish baseballs, and here he is in Philadelphia making $100 million over five years.
Go Phils!
“I think it describes a lot of the personalities in this clubhouse. We’re a bunch of kids who get to play baseball. A lot of us in this clubhouse don’t have a college degree, but we’re good baseball players”
