Kyler Murray and the Cardinals were on fire to start the season. They started 10-2 before losing four of five down the stretch and then getting their playoff doors blown off by the eventual champion Rams.

It all started a bunch of speculation about Murray’s future in Arizona. Not long ago, it seemed like a slam dunk that he’d be their franchise QB moving forward, but now that’s uncertain. All of the chatter got so loud that his agent came out and issued a lengthy statement in what appears to be size 8 font, so break out the magnifying glass (shared by Adam Schefter on Twitter) –

Murray is entering season number four at an 11 million dollar cap hit. He’s got the rookie option fifth year looming, then would become an unrestricted free agent in 2024, at the age of 27.

Maybe you can throw his name into the Eagles offseason mix here. Murray, Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson? That’s intriguing. Watson I wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole, but Murray looked great when DeAndre Hopkins was out there. Most quarterbacks would, so that’s not exactly a hot take.

But the takeaway from all of this is that things look very murky out in the desert, like a big desert dust cloud rolled over Arizona and is obscuring the QB situation. It’s like a big haboob, casting doubt over the future of that franchise. Does Howie Roseman sneak in there? Does he swap out one Oklahoma QB for another Oklahoma QB? Take the Kyler Murray log and throw it on the offseason speculation fire. Let’s get that baby burning.
