SEPTA Proposes Cuts to Service Past 9pm and No Gameday Express Line if Funding Doesn't Happen
SEPTA will be cutting gameday express service and won’t be running trains past 9pm if they don’t get funding according to their latest budget via Gabriela Carroll at the Inky:
Taking SEPTA down to the sports complex in South Philly might look very differentlater this year, based on the transit agency’sproposed service cuts, announced Thursday.
The cuts, which are proposed in response to a significant budget deficit for the transit agency, could have a massive impact throughout the region, including axing or limiting dozens of bus routes in the fall and closing five Regional Rail lines in January.
But one of the biggest changes, especially for fans of the Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, and Phillies, is the potential end of late-night service.
If the proposed cuts take effect, SEPTA says all transit would stop running at 9 p.m., beginning in January.
So if you use public transit after late night Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, and Phillies games get ready to learn Uber buddy…or drive. Now listen we’ve all had our battles with SEPTA. They are the worst. Service delays, crime, and making you stand outside during a snow storm after an Eagles game. We still unfortunately need SETPA. No matter how incompetent they are. Imagine a life with no express service or lines after 9pm. You think the stadium parking lot is bad now just wait until these new changes go into effect. Especially with everything happening in 2026. Philadelphia will be hosting the World Cup, MLB All-Star Game, America’s 250th birthday, and more. There’s no chance they can do all of this without SEPTA. We’re going to need the sales people to be working overtime this summer to sell brand deals. DraftKings, Miller Lite, Bet365, hell maybe even CB can pony up some money.
Imagine no more pigs in a shopping cart:
Anyone think the SEPTA shopping cart slow cooker got the pork belly up to the 155°F safe-to-eat temperature?
Absurd. I love us. GO BIRDS! #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/oH4bRIUZeW

And if I may please, let me get in on the debate. Remember this is coming from a dumb guy who relies on SEPTA occasionally. I don’t know anything about state budgets or non-profits or the comings and goings, but from an outsiders perspective everything I’m seeing from pro-SEPTA people at rallies and online is that no one ever places the blame on SEPTA. I understand it’s a double-edged sword, I understand they’re chronically underfunded, but I also understand they don’t really give you a reason to think they’ll ever fix themselves. The leadership over there is poor and overpaid. They’ve been constantly behind the eight ball when it comes to developing their tech compared to systems in NY and Chicago. Is there ever a chance that maybe they won’t need the state to throw them a lifeline while they’re drowning? Every year it’s just deficit this and deficit that while it gets larger and larger. Is SEPTA just forever the red-headed step child? Is it doomed because it’s just been so mismanaged for so long we’re never going to figure it out. I feel like the state could give it billions and SEPTA would come back and say they need more the next year. Imagine if Howie Roseman did what SEPTA does and just bitched and moaned about not having the horses when he re-inherited the team in 2016. We wouldn’t have a Super Bowl I’ll tell you that!
