Mercifully, we’ll get a Philadelphia Phillies break when the NFL Draft kicks off Thursday night at 8 p.m.

But first, an update on Jordan Romano, who couldn’t hold a 10th inning, 3-2 lead on Wednesday afternoon in New York.

His ERA has ballooned to 13.50 with two blown saves and the Sportradar data shows he’s now tied with Oakland’s Mitch Spence for the most runs given up among all Major League Baseball receivers:

15 runs allowed, 14 charged as earned runs. He’s conceded 15 opponent hits and three home runs. Batters are slashing .366/.458/.707 against him, good for a 1.166 oOPS. Note that Romano only pitched 13.2 innings because of the 2024 injury, but in 2023 his ERA was 2.90 and he only gave up 20 runs over 59 total innings. That’s the guy the Phillies were hoping they were getting, but it has not worked out SO FAR.

You also see Joe Ross making the top 25 as well. His ERA is 5.68 at this point and he ate up some extra innings Tuesday when Cristopher Sanchez had to exit with left forearm soreness.

The Phillies need bullpen help. Now back to your regularly-scheduled programming.
