Robinson is 6’5″, 288 pounds, a third-team All-Big Ten selection who started all 13 games for Matt Rhule and finished with 37 tackles, 12.5 TFL, seven sacks, four PBUs, and a forced fumble. He tested well at the NFL Combine and
Here’s the scouting report from B/R’s Matt Holder:
Ty Robinson is a draftable player based on the impressive movement skills he showed on tape and the athletic testing numbers he put up at the combine. That gives him the potential to contribute as an interior pass-rusher down the line. He’s already effective on line games and has a decent club-by move to serve as his foundation.
However, Robinson struggles in the run game, has short arms and needs to improve his use of hands as a pass-rusher. While the latter can be developed, he’s a sixth-year senior who still has this technique issue and might be limited given his lack of arm length.
Overall, the Nebraska product is worth taking a chance on in the later rounds of the draft, especially for an odd-front team that’s looking for a 4i-technique.
It will be nice to have some interior pass rush to replace Milton William’s lost production. Say what you will about Howie trading back multiple times in this draft, but they did address the gaps left by the departures of Williams and CJGJ. Maybe Jihaad Campbell can give them some reps on the edge as well. Three draft picks so far, all defensive players, and we know how well that’s worked out in recent years. At this point, Howie could draft some dude out of a directional school at the FCS level and I’d trust him.
They have some 5th round picks coming up.
