Brandon Marsh Speaks on Turbulent First 2 Weeks of 2025 Season
It’s been a brutal start to the 2025 season for Brandon Marsh.
Marsh is 4 for 37 and hasn’t logged a hit since March 30th against the Washington Nationals. If you take away his 3-hit game on March 29th, he’s 1 for 32 this season. He’s struggling. He knows it, the team knows it, and the fans know it.
Marsh came to the stadium today with a positive mindset, and seemed in good spirits down on the field during batting practice. He said he got to the stadium today around 12:30, a lot earlier than he usually does. He said he wanted to take advantage of his day off and get some extra swings in and get the mind and body right.
Every single player in baseball goes through slumps; it just happens. But Marsh isn’t an established veteran that’s locked into a contract to keep him here forever. If you’ve read Twitter the last few days, you know Phillies fans aren’t happy with him right now, nobody is. But Marsh is keeping his head down and continuing to work, which is the only thing you can do in a time like this:
“The game is very, very tough. It’ll bring you down, break you down, and bring you up when you least expect it. I just gotta keep a positive mindset and really just keep my head in the work.” – Brandon Marsh ahead of tonight’s game against the Giants
Marsh has spoken with a lot of his teammates over the last week or so. He named Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber as the ones he’s talked to the most. He touched on the leadership on this team and said that they’ve helped him out a lot mentally and physically so far through this tough stretch.
Every player is different. Some guys have to take 2,000 swings a day and swing out of their slump. Other guys just need a reset day. Rob Thomson said pregame today that Brandon Marsh is thinking about it quite a bit. He said Marsh, who is out of tonight’s lineup, will probably have two days off, and with the Phillies facing left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray on Wednesday, Marsh’s break could turn into three days.
It’s a long season. Brandon Marsh knows that. Rob Thomson knows that. Marsh has a .439 OPS through 14 games with a -0.4 WAR. Tough stretches happen, as unfortunate as they are, and Marsh isn’t the only one struggling, but a few days off should only help Marsh. Clear the head, get the mind right, and get back on the horse on Thursday.
