A Look at the Eagles' NFL Draft Odds and Shedeur Sanders' Significant Over/Under Shift
One of the luxuries in rooting for the Super Bowl champion is you don’t have to worry as much about the NFL draft as you would in previous years.
The Eagles currently hold the No. 32 pick in the first round of Thursday’s draft. I say currently because who knows what’ll happen once the draft begins.
As of Noon on Thursday, the Eagles are favored to take a defensive lineman or edge rusher with the No. 32 pick. Offensive line, tight end, and safety follow in that order.
Every mock draft has a different opinion on what the Eagles should do.
NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has Alabama LB Jihaad Campbell as the pick, ESPN’s Peter Schrager says Kentucky CB Maxwell Hairston is the guy at No. 32, while ESPN’s Field Yates has Boston College EDGE Donovan Ezeiruaku as the pick. (Fun fact: Campbell and Ezeiruaku are both South Jersey natives, would be a cool moment if either player is chosen).
The variety doesn’t stop there, though, as Bleacher Report has Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka going to the Birds.
So, yeah, that’s all to say there’s a ton of variety in the choice for Howie Roseman and Co.
I’d offer a few other names:
Safety Malaki Starks because, when in doubt, pick a defensive player from Georgia, Ole Miss defensive tackle Walter Nolen, whose projected landing spot is all over the place and Ohio State RB Tre’Veyon Henderson because of his pass-catching ability to complement Saquon Barkley (unlikely, but his overall rank is around 32).
The Birds’ first pick was a defensive player in each of the last three years. The only other significant trend is eight players selected from Alabama and Georgia over the last four drafts.
There’s also a chance the Eagles trade back because there will likely be quarterback-hungry teams lurking to get back into the final few picks of the opening round.
Thursday’s biggest storyline is where Shedeur Sanders gets selected. His over/under plummeted on Wednesday to 21.5, which suggests the New York Giants are off the Colorado quarterback. The Steelers pick at No. 21. That’s the most logical landing spot after the top three, and because of that, the Steelers are now the favorite to draft Sanders.
If Sanders drops past Pittsburgh, the trade offers will probably come in for the Eagles and teams from 22-32. If Sanders is chosen at 21, there’s also a chance a team like the Browns or Giants comes back into the first round to take Jaxson Dart. The quarterback situation, at least right now, is dependent on how far Sanders falls. That makes the number of quarterbacks chosen in the first round, a prop that sits at 2.5, one of the more fascinating prop bets.
Kinkead: The draft begins at 8 p.m. and we’re probably going to be sitting around waiting for the Birds to hit the board. I would suggest grabbing a PA online casino bonus and playing Cash Eruption while trying to ignore the inevitability of the Giants taking Philly kid Abdul Carter.
