The Sixers lost Monday night’s tank-off in New Orleans, falling to the Pelicans by a final score of 112-99. Justin Edwards and Jared Butler led the boys with 19 while the Pels were paced by some guy named “Karlo Matkovic” off the bench. Former Sixers legend Elfrid Payton had 14 assists.

The Philly basketball team is now 4-21 in February and March and clinging to a bottom-five position as they look to hang on to their first-round draft pick and keep it out of the Thunder’s dirty mitts.

But it gets tricky now because there’s a lot of slop to close out the season. The schedule:

  • vs. Wizards
  • vs. Heat
  • vs. Raptors
  • at Knicks
  • vs. Bucks
  • vs. T Wolves
  • at Heat
  • at Wizards
  • vs. Hawks
  • vs. Bulls

The Wizards are 15-56 and the NBA’s worst team. The Heat are 30-41 and occupying the Eastern Conference’s final play-in spot. The Raptors are 11th place at 25-47 and the Hawks and Bulls are inconsequential slop. The Knicks/Bucks/Wolves run we hope is a three-game losing streak.

There’s no catching the Wizards or Jazz or probably the Hornets, because they’re too far gone, so the Sixers really need to finish bottom six to have a 39% chance of landing inside the top four. Anything outside of that is gonna be a roll of the dice and a prayer. The teams that are a real threat to their positioning are the Nets and Raptors, because there’s only 2.5 games of separation between 5th and 7th-worst, as it stands. Brooklyn’s schedule is not very difficult down the stretch, though they do play Toronto twice and get the Clippers, Mavs, Knicks, and two against the T Wolves. The Raptors have to play the Nets (2x), Hornets (2x), Sixers, Bulls, Blazers, Pistons, Mavs, and Spurs.

We are going to see some disgusting basketball down the stretch here. Buckle up, because we all know what needs to be done. It’s time to #RaiseTheFlagg for Cooper Flagg. Then Joel Embiid and Paul George get healthy and the Sixers go on a miracle run in 2026 to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy as world champions.
