Flyers Enter Boston a +138 Underdog for Tuesday Clash with Bruins
The Philadelphia Flyers have had all sorts of trouble keeping the puck out of their net.
They enter Tuesday’s road game against the Boston Bruins a +138 money line underdog, with 4.44 goals against per game.
John Tortorella’s team has the highest concession rate in the NHL and the next worst teams have allowed 4.2 goals per game. That’s a big difference for this early in the season.
Each of the last four Flyers opponents scored at least four times, and doesn’t matter who the goalie is right now. The Flyers can’t seem to consistently stop teams, and it’s not like they’re playing the top contenders in hockey either. Two of the last four games were against the Washington Capitals, who although look like an improved team, are still in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference in terms of title contenders. The same can be said about the Montreal Canadiens. The Minnesota Wild are better than Washington and Montreal, but they’re in the second tier of contenders, at best, in the Western Conference.
So what happens when the Flyers face a Stanley Cup contender in the Boston Bruins?
Well, one thing is for sure, plenty of attempts on goal will happen.
Boston averages a concession of 30.3 shots per game, while the Flyers let up 28.2 attempts per contest.
The Bruins are only 4-4-1, but it’s worth noting their four regulation losses came against the Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators, and Dallas Stars, all of which are projected playoff teams.
The Flyers don’t have the top-end offensive talent on their roster that compares to David Pastrnak, Elias Lindholm, and Brad Marchand and that could do them in on Tuesday night in Boston.
Pastrnak, unsurprisingly, leads the Bruins in points (8) and shots on goal (39). He has 16 more shots on target than Marchand in second place on the Boston roster.
Pastrnak is also a noted Flyers killer with 26 goals and 17 assists in 31 career games against the Black and Orange. Marchand has equally impressive numbers with 18 goals and 31 assists in 51 games versus Philadelphia.
Boston’s top playmaker has a shots on goal over/under of 3.5, which is low for him. He is -105 to score a goal. I would also look into FanDuel’s Daily Specials for the daily shots on goal leader for Pastrnak at +1000.
I get it, it’s no fun betting against any of our teams, but overs have been a massive money maker on Flyers games this season, and that also means some of the Flyers players have looked dangerous in the attacking zone.
Travis Konecny enters Tuesday on a three-game scoring streak with seven points and 12 shots on goal in that span. Konecny is +140 to score on DraftKings and +170 to score at FanDuel. His shots on goal prop is over/under 3.5.
With Pennsylvania sports betting, I’d also look into Travis Sanheim’s shots on goal prop of over/under 1.5. He’s had at least two shots on goal in all but one game this season and recorded SOG totals of 3, 4 and 4 in the last three games. He’s averaging over 23 minutes of ice time, so I’d feel pretty comfortable betting the over on the standard SOG prop and potentially laddering him up to 4 SOG, which FD lists at +470.
