I’m listening to the top of the afternoon show on WIP and Spike is talking about Howard getting suspended for creeping on a female Aramark employee:

“There is a story out there about my dad. You probably read it, you probably heard about it. The truth, though, is that he and I are different people who do different things. Even though he did this job and I do this job, I am not him, he is not me. I think we have made that very clear over the years, for better or for worse. So I don’t feel comfortable at all speaking on the issue itself, as I would not if it was anybody else here at WIP. It is his issue with the radio station and the people involved; it is not my issue. As far as this show goes, and as far as I go, we are going to this show exactly as we always do. There will be no difference. Things will go as they do. And from this point on, that’ll be it out of me. The reason for that is I feel it’s the right thing to do, the respectful thing to do, and truthfully this 4 hours out of my day is the highlight of my day. And I feel like this show is my escape from everything else… I felt like it was the right thing to say something, but that’s about all I can, or will say.”

And then they immediately got it back to the Eagles, which was hilarious. But I think that’s fair. Were we expecting something different? Was he supposed to come out and condemn the behavior? Should Jack Fritz and Ike Reese do the same? Joe Giglio and Joe “The Hammer” DeCamara? Are they COMPLICIT? I don’t know. I think you’d leave that to station management. This is a sensitive HR issue anyway, so I can’t imagine they’d be given permission to talk about it at all. Spike’s not the program director and he doesn’t run 94 WIP or Audacy. He isn’t the one who made unwelcome advances and tried to kiss an Aramark employee, so why is it his responsibility to answer to this? At least they acknowledged it, but you open the can of worms if one guy comes out and talks about it and nobody else does. (EDIT – I will say it’s funny that this happened what, a week after his “accountability” rant with Bryce Harper? funny how those things work out)

It’s probably hard enough being Howard’s son as it is. Could you imagine? Then The King goes and pulls a Joe Namath. Outrageous! The only reason why Spike would/should address this is if he had some involvement in the investigation, or the punishment, which does not appear to be the case. I’d assume that Rod Lakin and David Yadgaroff and Audacy officials handled the decision making for this one.
