RIP to Hall of Famer George McGinnis
Sixers post:
George McGinnis was a Hall of Famer on and off the court, earning several accolades during an ABA-NBA career that spanned a decade.

Some of our readers are too young to remember McGinnis, who played here in the mid-1970s, but he was a 2x All Star during his three Philadelphia seasons and played some of his best basketball during that 1976-77 campaign. They were actually up 2-0 in the Finals before Bill Walton went beast mode and and turned into a rebounding and shot blocking machine. But McGinnis was a physical specimen, just a supremely-gifted athlete who played alongside Dr. J and Doug Collins on a couple of really good Sixers teams.
Not sure if you’ve ever seen this before, but McGinnis had a really unique one-handed jumper. He shot the ball better with one hand than some guys do with two hands:

The Pacers & ABA legend was known for his combination of strength and quickness along with his signature 1-hand jumpshot.Dr. J: “Until LeBron came along, I never saw a guy with George’s physical abilities on the basketball court.” pic.twitter.com/KdemV86qvp

Great player. He wasn’t in Philly for very long, but had a storied career across several different franchises. RIP.
