The Morehouse writeup notes that Douglas and Files were sophomore year roommates, while going on to say this:
Hugh Douglas was an exceptional student who displayed immense dedication and promise in pursuing a business administration degree with a concentration in finance. He was a member of the Morehouse Business Association, an AltFinance Fellow, and a Goldman Sachs Fellow, demonstrating his commitment to excellence in his field. Over the summer, he interned at Ares Management Corporation in Los Angeles.
Morehouse is an HBCU in downtown Atlanta.
Here’s more on what happened from WSB-TV:
Georgia State Patrol said the crash happened around 5 p.m. off Church Street and Linwood Avenue in East Point. Troopers said Files was trying to pass another car in the curve at a high rate of speed when the car left the road.
Files’ car hit two power poles and overturned. Both Files and Douglas died at the scene.
Really sad story. Hugh had been posting on Twitter late Monday night, mostly pictures of him with his son, before anybody was aware of what had happened, and before any kind of official report or news had been shared. Here’s a collection of the photos he put on social:
