97.5 the Fanatic Bringing in New Program Director as Chuck Damico Returns to WMMR
While we’re on the topic of radio news, Crossing Broad has learned that 97.5 the Fanatic program director Chuck Damico is moving over to WMMR to assume the same position.
Damico was previously the WMMR assistant program director, and took over at 97.5 the Fanatic in 2020, six months after Eric Johnson’s dismissal. An internal promotion, Damico was initially tasked with handling the Fanatic while remaining APD at WMMR and functioning as the “brand consultant” for BEN-FM. He then had to navigate the departure of Mike Missanelli and other talent while seeing ratings dip across the board. His assistant program director and operations manager, Eric Camille, was then laid off in the round of cuts that also saw Jamie Lynch initially depart (before returning and then leaving again).
Leaving WMMR is longtime PD Bill Weston, who is retiring. We’re told veteran radio executive Scott Masteller is in line for the Fanatic job, and hope to have that confirmed soon.
